Hi, you can find me at my new blog, http://www.katebello.com. I will no longer be updating Bohemian Kate. You can find all of my archived BK posts on the new blog as well as new posts. Hope to see you there!
I've gone rogue in the smoothies realm. Out is all that powdery crap and in is the real deal. Real nuts and seeds and dates and just go for it and don't hold back (unless, that is you don't have a Vitamix). This smoothie makes me think in a stream of consciousness, that says the hell with it and just do what you need to do. Yes, I woke up feeling sassy today.
And this is a sassy smoothie! This is like a big Trader Joe's trail mix bag of a smoothie and once you go trail mix smoothie it's hard to go back. Okay, that didn't really have the flair I was looking for, but here's my point. Whole foods and much better than processed powders so just throw it all in there and um, see what happens.
A bunch of whole food goodness is what happens! Damn, I just cannot get off this sassy kick this morning. My apologies. Here we go..
1 1/2 cups of the frozen fruit of your choice, but I prefer blueberries and strawberries.
I like to add baked sweet potato to my smoothies just because, but a banana or avocado will do too (something to give it a creamy consistency)
4-5 Brazil nuts
1 spoonful of raw pumpkin seeds
1 spoonful of cocoa nibs
3/4 of almond milk (may need more)
Really easy, throw all of this stuff in a blender and blend. It was still be chunky, but that's kinda the point.
Also, I would not attempt this with a regular blender bought at the grocery store or drug store because it most likely won't be able to handle the nuts and seeds. I know it's expensive, but I recommend the Vitamix. That's what I use. Think of it as a long term commitment guys. It will be there for you day and day not like some of the flaky blenders I've come across in my life.
You guys, I never used to wear glasses. I thought I had perfect vision because every time I went to the doctor they said my vision was 20/20. Well that was a bunch of, well bull. Years went by and I had the worse eye strain. It got to the point where I couldn't work on the computer during the day and then watch any TV at night. It hurt to look at the TV.
So all I can say after going through that experience is, if you are having any sort of eye strain, go to an eye doctor. I finally went and found out I'm far sighted which means my eyes were straining heavily while looking at my computer screen. Getting glasses was such a freakin relief, I can't even tell you. I don't have to wear them all the time, just while I'm on the computer, looking at my phone or reading. I just got my glasses last November, but I think I may go in again to get them rechecked because I'm still experiencing a little eye strain. I may need a stronger prescription.
By the way, I did try glasses specifically for computer eye strain that didn't help me at all which is why I highly recommend going to see an eye doctor. I let my discomfort go on for far too long
I'm always on the look out for cute new eye glasses. I don't know, it's become a thing for me. I like big, kinda nerdy 80s secretary frames (haha, don't ask me why...though it could be because little frames just look really strange on me) and recently I came across Warby Parker, a very modern glasses company. I was intrigued.
I was intrigued because of their Warby Parker Home Try-On Program where they actually send you five pairs of glasses to your home to try on. For free. You recieve them within two days and then you have five days to try them out and see which ones you like. So I did it.
Just like they promised they got here in two days in a pretty little box and I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty excited about it. So the finalists are:
What do you think? I gotta say, it was really nice to try the glasses on at home as opposed to in a store with someone waiting for you to make a decision.
They also have a program called Buy One Give One (similar to Tom's) where if you buy glasses from them they give a brand new pair of glasses to a person in need. The program details are in the link. I'm really trying to make an effort to buy exclusively from companies that give back in some way or are eco friendly. That's my new mission.
