Natural acne remedies? Do they really work? Yes they do...I receive a lot of emails asking how to naturally get rid of acne. Acne seems to be something that plagues a lot of us (me included back in the day) and sometimes it seems like it can be somewhat of a mystery. Why am I breaking out all of a sudden? Where is it coming from? Why can I get rid of it? ...does any of this sound familiar?
I want to show you some natural acne spot treatments that I use in the rare occasion that I do get acne. These treatments usually clear up the pimple in a matter or a night or a couple days. However, I do want to clarify a couple of things before we move on to the treatments.
While treatments do in fact work and may help the symptom of acne, it doesn't really get to the root of the problem. I truly believe that what you eat, your lifestyle, toxins you ingest and stress are the cause of acne. I do not believe that it comes out of nowhere. I used to have somewhat severe issues with acne when I was a teenager (you can read more about that in my ebook on the right), enough to go to a dermatologist. Long story short, I did go on medication to help with the acne, but long term I completely changed my diet and it never came back. I went from constantly eating junk food (and I mean, I literally ate no veggies whatsoever) to now a veggie and fruit heavy whole grain diet. It wasn't overnight, but I can tell you today my skin is better than it ever was in my teenage years or my 20s. Nowadays, when I do break out, I can almost always tell what's causing it because I already feel out of whack whether it be from stress or sometimes I eat too much chocolate (both of these happened over the holidays).
Here's an experiment for you if you are having trouble with acne. Give yourself at least a couple months to do this consistently: cut out all junk food, eat a ton of organic veggies and fruit plus whole grains and whatever protein you like, drink a lot water to cleanse your system every day and work out like three times a week. Do this consistently, be honest with yourself (don't cheat!) and see what happens. Not only will you probably feel much better, but you will most likely see your acne clear up. Let me know if you do because I'm really curious about this...I just know that it's worked for myself and really, it's common sense, right?
In the meantime! ...here are some spot treatments that will help clear up acne temporarily, but hopefully a healthy overall lifestyle will prevent it from coming back.
- Honey is what I use most of the time if I have a pimple. I use this mostly at night, but I just put a little bit on the blemish and it's usually gone within a few days.
- I love tea tree oil. I think it has so many great uses, one of them being for acne. However, you need to dilute it with a carrier oil. I would suggest something like Jojoba oil which is very light and close to the natural oil, sebum, that our skin already produces. Just mix a drop of tea tree with the jojoba and apply as a spot treatment.
- Lemon juice is a natural disinfectant that works well and is super handy...seems like lemons are always around, right? Just apply the juice directly to the acne.
There's just one more thing I have to say about acne. Please, please don't pop your blemishes. I know to some of you, this sounds crazy, but anytime you're breaking the skin, you risk the chance of scarring. Just let the pimple run its course. I know that sometimes it's really embarrassing to walk around with blemishes (trust me, I've been there), but acne is temporary while scarring isn't (usually). I am researching into any natural treatments (I've had some questions regarding this) that do help with scarring which I will be posting in the near future.
Prevention is the key to acne. Acne, like headaches, digestive problems or fatigue is a symptom and a sign that your body is out of balance.

...currently
Just watched the first episode of Girls Season 2 (love), am having a Genisus moment (I've been obsessively listening to them all week) probably due to the fact that I'm reading American Psycho (what can I say about this? there are some parts I've had to skip over, but as a satire of the 80s, it's brilliantly written, Bret Easton Ellis is one of my favorite writers and I've finally gathered the courage to read this one, have read all of his others), watched Boogie Nights last night (love the soundtrack and the clothes), want to see Silver Linings Playbook again...it goes on and on.
xoxo...Kate
Great tips! I agree about the honey. My skin is super sensitive and used to either break out or dry out when I used any kind of cleanser. The honey keeps it clearer than anything else, and also works great as a spot treatment.
I haven't seen Silver Linings Playbook, but I adore David O. Russell. And Bret Easton Ellis too! You've just reminded me that I should get around to reading him again.

That's great to hear about the honey...you should definitely see Silver Linings! You will love it. I have to say that Mr. Ellis is probably my favorite author at the moment...

My advice to people is to always read the labels and use it according to the directions. Also, you should only purchase that do not have harmful chemicals! As these chemicals can lead to more acne! I started getting acne when I was a Junior in High School. I tried all of the well-known product lines but my skin would become somewhat "immuned" to the product after a week a use. I finally tried the Citrus Clear products I found online. After about a month of using Citrus Clear, I was so happy. Citrus Clear cleared, healed, and prevented acne.

Hii! I just wanted to say that lots of blogger who write about natural beauty and living (I reeeeeaaaly love this stuff, don't get me wrong) often ignore meat. I don't know if you're vegetarian or what, but meat is just great. It is the food that allowed our brain to develop when we were Neanderthal, it is VERY important. Personally eating only vegetables make me feel very weak, so I eat a great tenderloid and I feel reborn (I see cows while they're growing and eating near my house, on my territory, they're not put-upon). My body really needs it. We are all different but I think it is one of the more natural food we can give to our bodys..
(Love you proteins!)
Personally I prefer blogs as Thank Your Body or Crunchy Betty, but ok, I re-read important things :)
